Anambra Chief Judge Umeadi Frees 13 Prisoners From Onitsha Prisons

Thirteen inmates of the Federal Prisons Onitsha have been granted amnesty by the State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi when he visited the area.

The Chief Judge was accompanied by the Administrative Judge of the state, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu, among other judges and Chief Magistrates.

 

Addressing legal practitioners and litigants, Justice Umeadi explained the conditions for delivery to include inmates on awaiting trials, those with health related problems, as well as juvenile cases.

 

While calling for the speedy justice delivery, Justice Umeadi, appreciated the state Controller of Prisons for his assistance.

 

In a remark, the Deputy Controller of Prisons, in the State, Mr. Ibrahim Unman, expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge for giving hope to the common man.

 

He observed that the jail delivery exercise will not only facilitate quick dispensation of justice, but also help in prison decongestion.

 

Speaking to the ABS, a thirty-one year old Chukwujekwu Ifejika and thirty –two year old Ahmed who were discharged after seven years of being in jail, narrated their ordeal and promised to turn a new leaf.
